Regenerative style farming…
Farming in a regenerative style is more labour intensive, as well as more intensive on the portion of land that is being grazed, however the beauty is in the time. The farm is divided up into small paddocks, each group of animals in their electric fence pens are moved from daily to weekly into their new positions. This gives the starting point a long resting time before they are back. The animals follow each other around the farm, each having their specific role. Neil & Joanne have been farming in this way for the past 2 years and already they have noticed less compaction and a more diverse grass species and herbal lay.
The current rotation of animals at Mountain View starts with sheep, followed by the chickens , finishing with the pigs. All of the animals are held in electric fence moveable pens. The ruminants cut the grass and leave their manure deposits, moving them daily supports the health and vitality of both the animal and the soil. The chickens follow the sheep ideally 7 days behind, scratching through the manure and ground allowing them to forage for bugs and grubs thus supplementing their diet. Their latest addition to the farm are the pigs, Large black X OSB , also in electric fence pens they are moved less often , allowing them to root and turn over the soil in more compacted areas.

Pasture Raised Chickens…
Neil & Joanne are new-entrant farmers based in south Herefordshire, specialising in pasture‑raised chickens for both meat and eggs. Their system uses mobile shelters and rotational grazing to ensure birds forage on diverse grasses, improving welfare and soil health while eliminating reliance on permanent sheds. By integrating extended outdoor access, natural diet and low‑stress handling, we produce flavoursome, nutrient‑rich meat and high‑quality eggs while building fertility and biodiversity across the farm. Our focus is transparency and traceability: every bird’s life is managed to high welfare standards, with attention to rotational pasture rest, mixed swards and minimal input use, so customers can be confident they are buying products from a regenerative, place‑based system rooted in south Herefordshire.
We steward the land with care, our simple yet labour intensive methods of farming create a delicious product that is nutrient dense and free from chemicals, how food should be. Discover Our Story
